Our group have started constructing ideas for the layout of the front cover of the magazine. So far, we have established the font, which will be sans serif as it is not too serious. The colour scheme has been decided as well as the main image and headlines. Despite having made these decisions regarding the front cover, they are not completely finalised and may be changed if we think that there is something that would be more suitable for our target audience. We must make sure that we stick to a house style as stated in the brief, which we will cater our magazine too.

Analysing Music Magazines
I have chosen to analyse Q music magazine to give me inspiration for my magazine. The masthead is in a bold font to make it stand out and catch the readers eye. Also, it is in red as this colour is effective at making a statement. I have decided to incorporate red into my magazine, which will be the main colour for the masthead. It is important for the readers to be able to recognise the artist on the front cover, so Q have placed a well- known music artist on theirs (Florence). Q specialise in celebrating pop/rock music within their magazine and Florence fits in well with this genre. It is important that in my magazine, the artist on the front cover fits the genre and target audience that I am appealing to. A close- up of Florence has been used to capture detail and to put sole focus on the artist. Florence is looking directly at the audience to engage the reader and draw in attention. There are a variety of headlines in different sizes, for example 'GIG' has been emphasised so that people are drawn to that specific headline straight away. Blue has been used for a particular headline in order to make the magazine more visually appealing and to make it stand out in contrast to the other headlines. A pull-out quote has been placed at the top of the front cover in order to captivate the readers interest as they are given an insight as to what the magazine will contain.

Research for Media Magazine (Choosing a name)
I have been researching and collecting data for my media magazine name. At the moment, Pop/Rock seems to be the proposed theme as it is dominating the music industry. We have conducted a survey regarding the name of the magazine. The options included: Spark, Vibe, Muse and Fuse. Overall, the general public preferred the name FUSE as it had music connotations and sounded like it would represent the magazine well. FUSE also suits the target audience intended, which are young people who enjoy listening to music. The word FUSE suggests youth and energy which are recurring themes in the magazine. The name of the magazine is vital in constructing a successful final piece as it gives the reader an automatic insight as to what the magazine will be like and is also what entices a reader to purchase a magazine.
Media Trip to BFI
On Thursday 21st November, our media class went on a academic trip to The British Film Institute, in South bank, London. The trip gave us an insight into the life of media directors and visual effects specialists. It was important to take in this information as it will help us with our coursework and for future camera activities. We were showed a variety of film openings and had to analyse as well as rate them out of five. Overall, the day was very beneficial for us media students as the key advice given can be incorporated in our final pieces and also used during our exam revision.
